i)  Infertility Investgation

Infertility is the inability of a couple to conceive or to have a baby despite trying. Problems with the female partner contributes to one third of the cases. Laparoscopy forms an integral part of the investigations required to diagnose the causes in the female partner as well as for its treatment.

Fallopian tubal patency can be detected, diseases like endometriosis, reproductive organs infection or adhesions between organs need evaluation and treatment which is facilitated with laparoscopy.

ii)  Ovarian Cyst

Ovarian cyst removal is surgery to remove a cyst or cysts from one or both of your ovaries. A laparoscopic surgery uses small incisions and specialized tools. It may offer faster recovery times than open surgery .

iii)  Hysterectomy

A laparoscopic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove the uterus.

  • Laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy
  • Total laparoscopic hysterectomy

iv)  Ectopic Pregnancy

A normal pregnancy is situated in the cavity of the uterus. Location of the pregnancy at any other location is termed as ectopic pregnancy. It could be located in the fallopian tubes or ovary or cervix. Rarely it could be lying in the abdomen. This pregnancy, which is most commonly in the fallopian tubes can rupture and cause severe bleeding inside the abdomen , which can be life threatening This is an emergency as the blood loss has to be replenished as well as the pregnancy and the tube has to be removed. Emergency surgery is required. If the pregnancy is not ruptured it can be removed by laparoscopy or open surgery.

v)  Tubal Ligation, Sterilisation

Fallopian tubal ligation is an irreversible form of contraception available. Though it can be reversed with another surgery called tubal recanalization, tubal ligation procedure should be undergone only permanent form of contraception is desired. The methods available are:

  • Laparoscopic method
  • Mini incision method

Both the methods are equally efficacious; thereby the choice depends on patient preference.
